Mecca Bucks: Why Saudis invited Starbucks to Islam’s holiest city

hijaaz2.jpg

Zvika Krieger, The New Republic Published: Wednesday, March 26, 2008

Multinational capitalism and its edifices rise in the shadow of Mecca’s Grand Mosque.

According to some popular Muslim accounts, the marble Kaaba structure at the center of the Grand Mosque in Mecca was built first by the angels before God created mankind, reconstructed by Adam, and later rebuilt by Abraham and Ishmael. It’s safe to say that none of these builders could have anticipated the latest use of the Mosque’s image, in a promotional DVD for the Abraj Al Bait Towers, a giant new skyscraper complex slated to be built just across the street from one of the entrances to the Grand Mosque. The DVD shows a beautiful woman sitting in one of the towers’ luxury apartments with floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook thousands of pilgrims circling the Kaaba below. Eyes flashing a come-hither stare from beneath her tightly wound headscarf, she asks prospective buyers in Arabic, “Would you like to be here in this place in front of the Kaaba year after year?” Read the rest of this entry »

The Diminishing of Political Standards

The Diminishing of the Prophets (Sall’Allahu Ta’ala Alayhi Wa’alihi Was’sallam) Political Standards

prophet-saws.jpg

We try our best to speak the meanings of Allah and His Prophet as relevant and as pertinent as these meanings are to reality and the truth of life around us. The reality that has been taking shape in this life around us in the past months and years is closing in on many of us in a way that we need to understand Allah and His Prophet better. It’s alright- this maybe the coldest day in the season, bear, with me even though it is not recommended to expose ourselves to an in climate weather more then is necessary. Brothers and sisters- a word of truth and honesty- what is meant for us, by the powers that be, is that we be split along sectarian and racial lines. These are the programs that are in progress that will impact tens of millions if not hundreds of millions of Muslims in a detrimental way if we continue to be withdrawn from Protective words of Allah and the guiding direction of His Prophet. We spent a good number of months, probably over a year, in trying to explain some of the roots that lay at the foundations of today’s intra-Islamic psychology. Because of the atmospherics and the social engineering that is imposed upon us by those who have power, maybe we are going to have to take something like a crash sequence of khutbahs to gain a little immunity to the sectarian bug that they want to contaminate our body with and infect our health with. The Muslim public has been for so long withdrawn from some of the basic elements that constitute a healthy Islamic mindset and psychology. Allah’s Prophet came to his people and to the rest of the people with a book- a scripture that in one sense can be reduced to a couple or few words: tawheed, Adl- the acknowledgement of Allah without any derivatives, competitors and parallels and the acknowledgement of the human condition as one defined by justice. Advice from the Heart of a Sufi Master

March 18 2007, LA California USA. Shaykh Hisham Kabbani Speaks to an audiance of over 500 attendents at the Senshin Buddhist Temple. There were christians, Jews, Buddist and Muslims in the audiance.

Why don’t we see this sort of thing in the mass media. The media only want to show people who shout ‘Kaffir’this and ‘Kaffir’ that. Whenever a Muslim talks about peace, it is shunned to one side, but when a Muslim does something contraversial, it is the top headline for the rest of the week. PATHETIC WESTERN MEDIA!!!

May Allah remove the hatred in our hearts, and enlighten our hearts with love for each other.

Eid Milad un Nabi (Alayhis Wasalātu Was Salām) Vs Terrorism

 jk3.jpg

The Prophet Muhammad’s (Sallal Lahu Alaihai Wa Salam) birthday, a public holiday in almost every Muslim country. It is celebrated with drums, street parties, sweets for children, poetry competitions, and, in most British mosques, a startlingly incongruous display of tinsel and fairy lights.

This is fine, of course. Religion is meant to make people happy. Onlookers may frown, mystified, but believers rejoice. This time, the rejoicing is about nothing less than the healing of the torn human heart. God has sent a Prophet to “heal hearts”, as the Koran puts it. From spiritual sickness, the Prophet brings his people into wholeness. The Prophet’s (Sallal Lahu Alaihai Wa Salam)  birthday is therefore on an emotional par with the party a cancer patient might throw when given the all-clear. There is a sense of relief and of exuberance, and also of gratitude.

The betrayal of suicide bombers

Getting to heaven is tough work, and it requires a lifetime of struggle against human weakness and temptation (along with God’s grace), not the press of a button on a suicide belt.

Suicide terrorism is a relatively new phenomenon. Although most commonly associated with Muslims, it has been well documented that many non-Muslim terrorist groups have utilized the tactic of the suicide attack. Still, it is hard for most people – including the author – to understand how someone could resolve to strap a bomb on his chest and detonate it among innocent people in order to commit mass murder. For the terrorists of the Muslim flavor, they justify such action by claiming that being a suicide bomber is an act of “holy war,” and in traditional Muslim theology, the one who dies in “holy war” will become a martyr that instantly goes to Heaven.

I have thought long and hard over their religious justifications. They make absolutely no sense. Read the rest of this entry »
