Mecca Bucks: Why Saudis invited Starbucks to Islam’s holiest city

Multinational capitalism and its edifices rise in the shadow of Mecca’s Grand Mosque.

According to some popular Muslim accounts, the marble Kaaba structure at the center of the Grand Mosque in Mecca was built first by the angels before God created mankind, reconstructed by Adam, and later rebuilt by Abraham and Ishmael. It’s safe to say that none of these builders could have anticipated the latest use of the Mosque’s image, in a promotional DVD for the Abraj Al Bait Towers, a giant new skyscraper complex slated to be built just across the street from one of the entrances to the Grand Mosque. The DVD shows a beautiful woman sitting in one of the towers’ luxury apartments with floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook thousands of pilgrims circling the Kaaba below. Eyes flashing a come-hither stare from beneath her tightly wound headscarf, she asks prospective buyers in Arabic, “Would you like to be here in this place in front of the Kaaba year after year?” Read the rest of this entry »

The betrayal of suicide bombers

Getting to heaven is tough work, and it requires a lifetime of struggle against human weakness and temptation (along with God’s grace), not the press of a button on a suicide belt.

Suicide terrorism is a relatively new phenomenon. Although most commonly associated with Muslims, it has been well documented that many non-Muslim terrorist groups have utilized the tactic of the suicide attack. Still, it is hard for most people – including the author – to understand how someone could resolve to strap a bomb on his chest and detonate it among innocent people in order to commit mass murder. For the terrorists of the Muslim flavor, they justify such action by claiming that being a suicide bomber is an act of “holy war,” and in traditional Muslim theology, the one who dies in “holy war” will become a martyr that instantly goes to Heaven.

I have thought long and hard over their religious justifications. They make absolutely no sense. Read the rest of this entry »

Pir Saqib al Shami Sahib on Extremists

Pir Saqib al Shami Chisti Sahib are one of the greatest upcoming Scholars in Islam. Alhamdulillah, he clearly shows that the majority of Muslims (Ahle Sunnah Wal Jamma’ah) are peaceful, and he even challenges any extremist to come and debate with him or any other eminent scholar of the Ahle Sunnah Wal Jamma’ah.

However, like always, speeches about peace by Muslim Scholars are not given a single bit of exposure by the big media organisations.

Why didn’t the mass media mention Shaykh Hisham Kabbani’s meetings with senior UK government officials to bring about some sort of understanding between the Muslims and the rest of society?

Why didn’t they mentions or show anything when Shaykh Hisham Kabbani’ and his Students did Dhikr infront of some of the UK MPs?

Saying “Ya Rasool’Allah (Sallalahu Alaihi Wassalam) Madad”

The permissibility to say ‘Ya Muhammad!’ [May Allah bless him and grant him peace]

The sensitive issue of whether or not Muslims can say the words ‘Ya Rasool Allah’ or ‘Ya Muhammad!’ [May Allah bless him and grant him peace] needs to be clarified, since this issue divides the Muslim community and causes a great deal of friction among the Muslims throughout the world. Basically, there appears to be what we could label as two “schools of thought”. One insists that saying that stating “Ya Rasul Allah is ‘shirk’ and that any Muslim proclaiming it in fact goes outside the pale of Islam. Now the other School believes that it is indeed permissible to say so – based on evidences from the Salaf, and the tafsirs of later day scholars. However, they do not insist that one must proclaim this – or that it is even a fard to do so, rather, it is permissible to do so. This is, and always has been, the stance of the Ahl al-Sunna.

Superior qualities of Sayidduna RasoolAllah (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wasallam)

(1) Almighty Allah wrote Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam’s) name in the Heavens and in the seven skies.

(2) The Angels were commanded to bow down to Nabi Adam (alaihis salaam), because he had the Nur (Light) of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) on his blessed forehead.

(3) After the birth of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam), Shaytaan could not go into the skies and steal news from the Angels.

(4) Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) used to be cradled by the Angels when he was a child.

“Muhammad is a man, but not like men;
He is an emerald, and others mere stone.”
