The Face of Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam

Hazrat Ali (Alayhi sallam) mentioned that the face of Nabi (Sall’Allahu Ta’ala Alayhi Wa’alihi Wa’sallam)was almost round. (Shamaail Tirmidhi)

The face of Nabi (Sall’Allahu Ta’ala Alayhi Wa’alihi Wa’sallam)was not totally round nor elongated. It was in between, but more round than long.

Once Hazrat Baraa Ibn Aazib(Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu)was asked :

“Was the Prophet’s face like a sword?” He replied : “No. It was like the full moon.” (Bukhari)

A sword is long and the shine has no real beauty. The moon on the other hand has beauty and it is round.

Jaabir Ibn Samurah (Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu) once mentioned : “I saw Nabi (Sall’Allahu Ta’ala Alayhi Wa’alihi Wa’sallam)one night when the moon was full. I looked at him. He had a red garment. I compared him with the moon and I found that he was better than the moon.” (Mishkaatul Masabeeh)

In any event the comparison of the moon is only to make us understand. The real beauty of the Nabican never be captured by even a thousand moons!

Hazrat Aisha (Radi Allahu Ta’ala Anha) explained the beauty of Nabi (Sall’Allahu Ta’ala Alayhi Wa’alihi Wa’sallam) in the most amazing way : “Had the friends of Zuleikha seen the face of Nabi (Sall’Allahu Ta’ala Alayhi Wa’alihi Wa’sallam)they would have cut their hearts instead of their hands.” The Quran mentions that Zuleikha’s friends cut their hands when they saw the beuaty of Yusuf (Alayhi sallam).

May Allah grant us all the good fortune of seeing the face of our beloved Nabi (Sall’Allahu Ta’ala Alayhi Wa’alihi Wa’sallam)in the Hereafter. Aameen!
